Indonesia’s consumer price inflation accelerated at a slower-than-expected pace in January, figures from the Central Statistical Agency showed Monday.
The consumer price index climbed 4.14 percent year-over-year in January, faster than the 3.35 percent increase in December. Economists had expected the inflation to rise to 4.26 percent.
Prices of foodstuff grew 6.60 percent in January from a year ago and utility costs went up by 3.06 percent.
Core consumer prices, which excludes volatile prices, rose 3.62 percent annually in January and edged up 0.29 percent from the preceding month
On a monthly basis, consumer prices increased 0.51 percent at the start of the year.
