Ireland’s construction activity expanded at the fastest pace in three months in June, survey figures from Markit Economics showed Monday.

The Ulster Bank Construction Purchasing Managers’ Index, or PMI, rose to 59.7 in June from May’s 6-month low of 55.9. Any reading above 50 indicates expansion in the sector.

Among sectors, the quickest monthly increase was again on commercial projects, just ahead of residential. At the same time, civil engineering continued to post the weakest rise in activity.

New orders climbed at the strongest rate since March. Similarly, the rate of job creation also quickened to a three-month high in June and was marked.

On the price front, input prices continued to rise sharply in June, driven by increased costs for insurance, oil and steel in particular. However, the rate of inflation eased slightly from last month.
