Ireland’s consumer prices decreased in February after rising in the previous two months, figures from the Central Statistics Office showed Thursday.
The consumer price index edged down 0.1 percent year-over-year in February, in contrast to a 0.1 percent stable rate of increase in January.
Prices of clothing and footwear dipped 3.8 percent annually in February and transport costs fell by 3.1 percent. At the same time, prices of miscellaneous goods and services grew 4.2 percent.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.4 percent in February, reversing a 0.8 percent drop in the preceding month. It was the first increase in six months.
The EU measure of inflation, or HICP, slid 0.2 percent yearly in February as expected by economists, after remaining flat in the prior month.
Month-on-month, the HICP climbed 0.4 percent in February from a month earlier, when it dropped 0.9 percent. The figure also matched consensus estimate.
