Ireland’s service sector activity expanded strongly at the end of the second quarter, survey figures from Markit Economics showed Tuesday.

The services Purchasing Managers’ Index dropped to 61.2 in June from 61.7 in the previous month.

However, any reading above 50 indicates expansion in the sector. This extended the current sequence of growth in activity to 47 months.

New orders climbed again in June, though at a reduce pace. Similarly, new business from abroad rose markedly in June, albeit at a weaker pace than in May.

Consequently, companies raised their staffing levels in June, but the rate of job creation eased to the slowest since May 2014.

On the price front, input price inflation accelerated to a seven-month high in June, driven by increased staff costs. This forced firms to lift their selling prices during the month.
