Ireland’s unemployment rate remained unchanged in December from the previous month, halting a 22-month long easing trend, figures from the Central Statistics Office showed on Tuesday.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate was 8.8 percent, unchanged from November. The figure had steadily declined since February 2014. A year ago, the rate was 10.2 percent.

The number of unemployed dropped to 190,600 from 191,300 in the previous month. In the same month of 2014, the jobless total was 219,800.

The youth unemployment rate, which applies to the 15-24 age group, eased to 19.2 percent from 19.4 percent in November. The rate dropped for the fourth straight month. In December 2014, the rate was 21.9 percent.

The number of young unemployed fell to 36,200 from 36,800 in the previous month. A year ago, the figure was 42,000.
