Italy’s consumer prices rose at a faster pace at the start of the year as the rate of decline in energy prices eased, preliminary data from ISTAT showed Wednesday.
The consumer price index rose 0.3 percent year-on-year in January following 0.1 percent increase in December. Compared to the previous month, the CPI fell 0.2 percent.
Energy prices fell 5.8 percent annually after an 8.7 percent decline in December.
Excluding food and energy prices, core inflation accelerated to 0.8 percent from 0.6 percent.
The harmonized index of consumer prices, or HICP, climbed 0.4 percent annually after a 0.1 percent gain in December. The measure that is meant for EU comparison dropped 2.2 percent from the previous month.
