Italy’s foreign trade surplus increased in July from a year ago, as exports grew faster than imports, figures from the statistical office Istat showed Thursday.

The trade surplus rose to EUR 8.0 billion in July from EUR 6.9 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year. In June, the surplus was EUR 2.8 billion.

Exports climbed 6.3 percent year-over-year in July and imports increased by 4.2 percent. On a monthly basis, both exports and imports fell by 0.4 percent and 3.7 percent, respectively.

The trade surplus with EU member states was EUR 3.0 billion in July and that with non-EU came in at EUR 5.0 billion.
