Japan’s consumer confidence worsened more-than-expected in February to the weakest level in thirteen months, survey figures from the Cabinet Office showed Tuesday.

The seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index fell to 40.1 in February from 42.5 in January. Economists had expected the index to drop slightly to 42.2.

The latest score was the lowest since January 2015, when it marked 39.5.

The survey was conducted on February 15 among 8,400 households and the response rate was 66.6 percent.

The sub-index for income growth worsened to 39.8 in February from 41.2 in the previous month. The overall livelihood index dropped from 40.9 to 38.5.

The component index for employment declined notably to 42.1 in February from 45.8 a month ago. Similarly, the index for willingness to buy durable goods slid to 39.9 from 42.0.
