Industrial production in Japan climbed a seasonally adjusted 0.8 percent on month in June, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said on Thursday.
That beat expectations for an increase of 0.3 percent following the 2.1 percent contraction in May.
On a yearly basis, industrial output advanced 2.0 percent – also exceeding expectations for a gain of 1.3 percent following the 3.9 percent contraction in the previous month.
Upon the release of the data, the METI maintained its assessment that industrial production is fluctuating indecisively.
Industries that mainly contributed to the monthly increase included transport equipment, chemicals and plastic products.
According to the survey of production forecast in manufacturing, production is expected to rise 0.5 percent in July and 2.7 percent in August.

Shipments in June were up 0.3 percent on month, rising for the first time in two months. They were also up 1.5 percent on year.

Inventories in May gained 1.3 percent on month, reversing the previous month’s losses. They were also up 3.9 percent on year.
