Total labor cash earnings in Japan grew at a faster-than-expected pace in October, preliminary report from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare showed Friday.

Gross earnings climbed 0.7 percent year-over-year to JPY 266,309 in October, faster than previous month’s 0.4 percent increase, which was revised down from 0.6 percent.

Economists had expected a 0.5 percent gain for the month. It was the fourth month of rise in a row.

Contractual earnings went up 0.2 percent annually in October, following a 0.1 percent increase in September. Special cash earnings surged 23.9 percent after a 12.6 percent hike in the preceding month.

Total real cash earnings rose 0.4 percent in October, slightly faster than the 0.3 percent spike a month earlier.
