Retail sales in Japan were flat on a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry said on Wednesday.
That was in line with expectations following the 0.1 percent decline in April.
On a yearly basis, retail sales slid 1.9 percent versus forecasts for a fall of 1.6 percent after easing 0.9 percent in the previous month.
Sales from large retailers tumbled an annual 2.2 percent – missing forecasts for a fall of 1.5 percent after easing 0.7 percent a month earlier.
