Key US Senators Come Out In Support Of Iran Nuclear Accord

A Key US Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA), a co-author of the bill allowing Congress to review the nuclear deal with Iran, announced Tuesday he will support the Iranian nuclear accord signed by the 5P+1 UN world powers and approved by the UN Security Council.

The accord signed and announced on 14 July between the 6 world powers and Iran “is a dramatic improvement over the status quo in improving global security,” Senator Kaine said in a Senate speech announcing he will back it.

Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL), representing a state with a sizable Jewish population, also announced his support for the Iran nuclear deal, during a speech on the Senate floor Tuesday.

“If the US walks away from this multinational agreement, I believe we would find ourselves alone in the world with little credibility,” said Sen. Nelson. “Killing this deal will mean that sanctions are going to be weaker than they are today.”

Also, Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) has come out in support of the Iran nuclear agreement.

Under the review bill, Congress has until 17 September to accept or reject the nuclear accord.

With many Republicans opposed, support from Democrats like Senators Boxer, Kaine and Nelson who strongly backed Congress’ demand to review the agreement will be essential to the Obama administration’s dive to survive the congressional process.
