Latvia’s current account surplus increased in January from a year ago, figures from the Latvian Central Bank showed Friday.

The current account surplus rose to EUR 82.14 million in January from EUR 19.83 million in the corresponding month last year. In December, the current account balance showed a deficit of EUR 10.79 million.

The goods trade deficit narrowed to EUR 120.2 million form EUR 137.13 million a year earlier. At the same time, the surplus on services trade shrank slightly to EUR 142.15 million from EUR 147.78 million.

The capital account surplus grew to EUR 48.19 million from EUR 19.73 million. The financial account deficit fell notably from 299.5 million to EUR 136.1 million.
