Latvia’s current account balance turned to a deficit in March from a surplus in the previous month, figures from the Latvian Central Bank showed Monday.

The current account balance showed a deficit of EUR 65.53 million in March, following a EUR 4.98 million surplus in February. In the same month of the previous year, the shortfall was EUR 65.63 million.

The deficit on goods trade widened to EUR 202.35 million in March from EUR 167.14 million in the preceding month. Surplus on services trade shrank to EUR 147.92 million form EUR 122.63 million in February.

At the same time, primary income balance turned to a deficit of EUR 22.19 million in March from a surplus of EUR 76.17 million in the prior month.

Meanwhile, capital account surplus increased to EUR 129.93 million at the end of the first quarter from EUR 35.35 million in February. Financial account deficit narrowed to EUR 53.05 million from EUR 60.44 million a month ago.
