Latvia’s foreign trade deficit increased in May from a year ago, as exports fell faster than imports, figures from the Central Statistical Bureau showed Friday.
The trade deficit rose to EUR 188.2 million in May from EUR 174.6 million in the same month of the previous year. In April, the shortfall was EUR 158.4 million.
Exports fell 2.8 percent annually in May and imports dropped by 0.9 percent. On a monthly basis, both exports and imports dipped by 11.7 percent and 7.2 percent, respectively.
The country’s main export partners during May were Lithuania, Estonia, Germany and the United Kingdom. Imports largely came from Lithuania, Poland, Germany and Estonia.
