Lithuania’s foreign trade deficit increased in August from a year ago, as exports fell faster than imports, figures from the Department of Statistics showed Friday.
The trade deficit widened to EUR 135.2 million in August from EUR 45.5 million in the corresponding month of the previous year. In July, the revised shortfall was EUR 281.3 million.
Exports plunged 9.9 percent year-over-year in August and imports fell by 5.4 percent.
Export volume dropped due to the decrease of oil products, electrical machinery and equipment and parts there of, the agency said.
On a monthly basis, both exports and imports declined by 8.8 percent and 14.0 percent, respectively in August.
In the January to August period, total trade deficit of the country was EUR 1.96 billion against EUR 1.08 billion in the same period a year earlier.
