Lithuania’s retail sales growth eased in September after accelerating in the previous month, figures from the Department of Statistics showed Tuesday.

Retail sales, excluding VAT, climbed 5.9 percent year-over-year in September, but slower than the 6.9 percent rise in August. In July, sales had risen 5.1 percent.

Excluding automobile fuel, retail trade advanced 5.2 percent in September from a year ago.

Sales of food, beverages and tobacco products rose 4.1 percent annually in September and that for non-food products grew by 6.3 percent. Retail sale of automotive fuel alone surged by 8.4 percent.

On a monthly basis, retail sales declined 7.3 percent in September. Excluding automotive fuel, sales dipped by 7.8 percent.
