A New Jersey Transit commuter train derailed and crashed into the Lackawanna Station in Hoboken, NJ this morning around 8:30AM causing major structural damage to the terminal and numerous passenger injuries.  Initial images from the station seem to indicate that a section of the roof has collpased and passengers are reportedly trapped under debris.

Passengers told WABC it was train number 1614 on the Pascack Valley Line, which left Spring Valley, N.J. at 7:23 a.m. bound for Hoboken and apparently was running late.

According to RT, preliminary reports indicate “approximately 100” injured passengers as area hospitals are mobilizing to receive the casualties.

The cause of the accident was not immediately clear, though the police chief told NBC New York there were “mass casualties.” Fire officials said they were investigating the crash as a possible derailment.

Several people who were on the train tweeted they felt “lucky to be alive.”

All PATH service at the Hoboken station is suspended.
