Malaysia’s consumer price inflation eased slightly in May, in line with expectations, figures from the Department of Statistics showed Wednesday.
The consumer price index rose 2.0 percent year-over-year in May, slower than April’s 2.1 percent climb. The figure also matched consensus estimate.
Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages grew 4.1 percent annually in May and utility costs went up by 2.4 percent. Non-food prices increased 1.1 percent, while transport costs registered a decline of 5.6 percent.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices inched up 0.3 percent in May, following a 0.4 percent spike in the preceding month.
