Malta’s EU measure of inflation accelerated for the second straight month in August, though slightly, figures from the National Statistics Office showed Tuesday.
The harmonized index of consumer prices, or HICP, increased 1.4 percent year-over-year in August, faster than the 1.2 percent climb in July. In June, pries had risen 1.1 percent.
Prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages grew 2.4 percent annually in August and that for clothing and footwear rose by 2.8 percent. At the same time, transport costs dropped 2.0 percent.
On a monthly basis, the harmonized index of consumer prices went up 0.3 percent in August after showing no variations in July.
