McLaren Update: The 750S Is For The Road
McLaren is now offering an updated model of its 570S, they will soon be on the road, as it works to build a consumer brand
The 570S is the latest offering in McLaren’s supercar line. Recall, that in Y2011, when McLaren debuted the MP4-12C as it 1st production car from this iconic racing car maker.
The 570S is super because it shows how far the company has come. This new edition is polished, refined, smoothed, and evolved to a more road worthy car, one you buy when you want to drive a hot car round town.
The 570S is the most conventional in McLaren lineup. I am not up for McLaren Orange on a road car.
A Key difference in the 570S are its doors, which open higher and tighter than the ones on the other models, allowing it to fit into smaller parking spaces.
The supercar has a new cut-out configuration along the baseboards on the outside, that lets the driver step inside easier than rolling inside feet last, thus easing ingress and egress.
McLaren has given the 570S a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 mid-mounted engine, with 570 hp on a 7-speed automatic transmission. Zero to 60 mph is 3.1 secs. Top speed is 204 mph.
Step on the gas pedal on the straight and feel McLaren’s F1-famous engineering all around you.
There are 3 drive modes and a start-stop function that helps economize fuel by killing the engine completely the moment you come to a stop and put on the brakes. Wonder what that is really about and for?
This super consumer car features the following practical applications:
- The 38mpg superior fuel economy at highway speeds, which is more than 2X what other cars of this caliber burn, so no gas-guzzler tax.
- The size of the front-placed boot, beats the dimensions of similarly placed storage.
- A push-button lift system is standard, raising the car to allow more ground clearance for surmounting angular parking garages.
- There is a cup holder.
- This is the first McLaren to come with a vanity mirror.
McLaren is using this supercar to appeal to younger drivers and will build fewer than 800 of them this year
Some of the factory options:
- Luxury Pack that includes 12-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound, electric and heated seats, soft-close and electric steering costs $6,530
- Trim packages that upgrade all interior materials cost $2,990
- Louder sport exhaust at $3,860.
McLaren’s 570S is a step in the evolution of a luxury sports car company with a racing heritage as it moves into the world of production models. Means that McLaren is expanding its reach past its loyalists toward people who are more diverse in their lifestyle, demographics, and desires.
The base-model 570S is priced at $184,900, it is in the range with the $188,100 Porsche 911 Turbo S or a Audi R8 or Acura NSX Type R. i.e., expensive but much cheaper than many exotics including the Ferrari California T.
Stay tuned…
