While we await news of the first, and quite historic, international Saudi bond pricing which at last check was said to be oversubscribed, in more surprising news, Al Arabiya reports that according to Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior, on Tuesday it carried out the execution orders on Prince Turki bin Saud al-Kabir, a member of the Saudi Royal family.

The prince had been found guilty three years ago by a Saudi court for murdering a young Saudi man following a group fight in al-Thumama region in the outskirts of Riyadh.
The statement said that “Saudi citizen Turki bin Saoud bin Turki bin Saoud al-Kabeer killed Saudi Adel bin Suleiman bin Abdul Karim Mohameed.”
The statement added that “authorities were able to arrest the above mentioned offender. After the investigations, they charged him of committing the crime and his indictment was sent to the General Court. He was charged with what was attributed to him and sentenced to death as retribution.”
The Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court both agreed on the indictment. A Royal Decree was issued for the implementation of the court’s rule.
What is just as strange as a member of the royal family being executed is that according to Al Arabiya, the victim’s family refused offers of ‘blood money’ and demanded justice be carried out.
The victim’s family declined to exercise their right of clemency and after last minute appeals at the square the execution was carried out https://t.co/ZUWSq0cP6Q

The statement added that the Interior Ministry confirmed “King Salman’s keenness on enforcement of security, justice and God’s judgments.”
It also warned “that legitimate punishment would be the fate of whoever tries to assault innocent people and shed their blood”.
While the timing may be purely coincidental, the fact that this “warning” comes at a time when social tensions are starting to mount in the cash strapped kingdom probably suggests that the local elites are starting to get concerned about a potentially more violent and volatile future and are taking advantage of this opportunity to send a message to everyone.
