Mexico’s foreign trade balance turned to a deficit in September from a surplus in the previous year, figures from the statistical office INEGI showed Tuesday.
The trade balance showed a deficit of $1.42 billion in September versus a surplus of $481 million in the corresponding month last year.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, the trade deficit came in at $1.2 billion in September against a surplus $632 million a year earlier. In August, the shortfall was $2.03 billion.
Exports fell 5.6 percent year-over-year in September, while imports broadly unchanged. Monthly, seasonally adjusted exports rose 0.83 percent and imports dropped by 1.72 percent.
During the first nine months of the year, total trade deficit of the country widened notably to $10.52 billion from $2.01 billion in the same period of 2014.
