Mexico’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at its lowest level in nine months in December, defying expectations for a decline, data from the statistical office INEGI showed Monday.
The unadjusted jobless rate held steady at 3.96 percent, while economists had expected it to fall to 3.88 percent. The latest figure is the lowest since March last year, when the rate was 3.86 percent.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, however, climbed to 4.37 percent from 4.21 percent in November. Economists had forecast a decline to 4.07 percent.
