The Christmas lights are starting to pop up and I’m starting to see more and more turkey and stuffing in shopping carts at the grocery store. I love this time of year, but for many it’s a time that makes keeping your hard earned physique in check difficult. When family comes to visit, it can be a challenge to eat healthy when everyone else is on an “all you can eat” diet.
It’s a challenge, but NOT impossible. It will take preparation and self control, but think about how much further ahead you will be when 2016 rolls around. When everyone else is making their usually empty “I’m going to do it this time” resolutions, you, on the other hand, will be maintaining the laser focus and momentum you built while they were packing on the calories and skipping workouts.
I challenge you to do it differently this year. I challenge you to dig deep and make your goals a priority. I know it will require more work, but I challenge you to make a healthier version of what everyone else will be eating…..and skip dessert. I’m not a fan of diets, but Thanksgiving and Christmas day have rippling effects that are difficult to overcome. The majority of people are over eating throughout the entire season not just on the actual day. Leftovers and celebratory sweets slowly but surely expand your waistline. So slow you don’t notice it until your pants don’t fit the same any longer.
Holiday eating is the gift that keeps on giving and giving, well into the next year. If creating your own separate meals is not an option financially or because your’re eating at someone else’s home then your main goal will be to avoid overeating. You can do this by allowing yourself to only have one helping, drinking water instead of sugary carbonated drinks and turning down dessert and candy. You will risk offending the cook and looking unusual, but don’t worry, they will understand and your body will thank you.
If you need help staying in shape this season, and avoiding weight gain, i’d love to be of service. Don’t hesitate to be proactive and contact me. I’ll be happy to assess you individually and create a custom holiday plan to help you protect yourself from common pitfalls.
