Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) Is Said To Be Acquiring Israeli’s Adallom
Ahead of the June quarter results announcement, there are reports indicating that Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is trying to acquire Israel-based Adallom, a startup, for $320 million. The move is aimed at strengthening its presence in the cloud computing space, which is getting slowly crowded now. The potential acquisition might be as part of the company’s ‘mobile first, cloud first’ dictum.

Reports appearing in Israel publications like Calcalist and Globes said that Adallom projects itself as a next-generation security firm. That will focus not only on corporate data sitting with internal storage and services but also data that goes beyond the enterprises’ conventional perimeter. The company raised about $50 million from venture firms from Sequoia Capial, Index Ventues, HP Capital and others some three years back.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) seems to be interested to take advantage of the enterprises turning towards outsiders who provide software-as-a-service (SaaS). However, the software firm itself is providing its own software features through its Office 365 that Adallom supports. The company has neither confirmed nor denied the reports of its buying of an Israeli firm. But the need for beefing up the security assumes greater importance in the current market conditions since there are more reports of data breaches on a day-to-day basis.

This would not be the first time that the company might acquire an Israeli company. The software firm acquired Aorato, a security firm, for $200 million in November last year.
