More Good News About Coffee

The good news about drinking Coffee keeps pouring in.

A new report presented at a meeting of the European Society of Cardiology found that drinking 3 to 5 cups of Coffee every day lowers the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD).

The study, published by the Institute for Scientific Information on Coffee, a not-for-profit organization that studies Coffee’s impact on health, found that those who drink 3 cups of Coffee each day showed the lowest mortality risk of CVD at 21.1%

Heart disease is the # 1 cause of death in the United States, killing almost 800,000 Americans yearly.

Coffee was also associated with a lower risk of diabetes. Those who drank 3 to 4 cups a day lowered their risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by 25% when compared to those who drank less than 2 cups daily.

The study also featured research that showed a combination of 5 healthy behaviors:

1. healthy diet

2. moderate alcohol consumption

3. no smoking

4. physical activity, and

5. abdominal fat,

could prevent 79% of heart attacks in men and cut the risk for women by 50%.

“It is important to acknowledge factors which might have a protective effect against CVD mortality,” said Prof. Doutor António Vaz Carneiro of the Faculdade de Medicine da Universidade de Lisboa. “Moderate Coffee consumption could play a significant role in reducing CVD mortality risk which would impact health outcomes and healthcare spending across Europe.”
