Norway’s foreign trade surplus decreased in October from a year ago, as imports rose and export fell, preliminary figures from Statistics Norway showed Monday.

The trade surplus shrank to NOK 20.57 billion in October from NOK 33.46 billion in the corresponding month of the previous year. Nonetheless, it was higher than the NOK 16.14 million surplus in September.

Exports plunged 13.6 percent year-over-year NOK 74 billion in October, while imports climbed by 2.4 percent to NOK 53.4 billion.

On a monthly basis, both exports and imports grew by 9.5 percent and 3.8 percent, respectively in October.
