NYSE Shuts Down All Trading Suspended
NYSE says all open orders will be cancelled after trading suspended
Intercontinental Exchange Inc’s (ICE.N) NYSE Group, which includes the New York Stock Exchange, said on Tuesday it temporarily suspended trading in all of securities on its exchanges following earlier reports of technical difficulties.
“NYSE/NYSE MKT has temporarily suspended trading in all symbols. Additional information will follow as soon as possible,” the NYSE said in a statement on its status page.
“We’re currently experiencing a technical issue that we’re working to resolve as quickly as possible,” a spokeswoman for the NYSE said in a statement. “We will be providing further updates as soon as we can, and are doing our utmost to produce a swift resolution, communicate thoroughly and transparently, and ensure a timely and orderly market re-open.”
The exchange was investigating the issue that caused the halt, Reuters reported, citing a source. Trading stopped around 11:30 a.m. ET.
The NYSE said all open orders would be canceled, according to Reuters. The issues seemed to be limited to the NYSE floor.
Just after 8 a.m. ET on Wednesday morning, the NYSE put out an alert about “a reported issue with a gateway connection” affecting certain symbols. It put out a notice at 10:37 a.m. ET that the problem was resolved.
Separately on Wednesday, The Wall Street Journal website experienced an apparent outage.
United Airlines Also had Issues
United Airlines said on Wednesday it was restoring operations after all its flights were grounded for about two hours due to computer problems.
Earlier, the Federal Aviation Administration grounded all of United’s flights following a systemwide computer glitch, which was resolved, the agency said. The grounding order began at 8 a.m. EDT and ended at 9:47 a.m.
About 260 flights were delayed, or 12 percent of all United flights, according to website FlightAware, while seven flights canceled.

United in a statement said “We are recovering from a network connectivity issue this morning and restoring regular flight operations.”
United said it would rebook flights for affected passengers without charge.
No additional details were available on what caused the glitch.
Passengers struggled to cope with the travel headaches.
“We just got here and are astounded that it’s not packed,” said Diane Menditto, 66, a retired teacher from Hackensack, New Jersey, on the United Airlines check-in line at Newark Liberty International Airport. She said she and her sister-in-law were worried about making their connecting flight en route to Calgary, Alberta in Canada.
“The only thing I would wonder is, now that we’re here and things are running smoothly, if we’ll actually get out on time,” Menditto said.
United flights were also grounded on June 2 due to “automation issues.”
