Austria’s OMV has signed a 4-year deal to evaluate offshore Oil & Gas fields northwest of Abu Dhabi with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and US firm Occidental Petroleum (NYSE:OXI), it announced today.

Under the deal, the companies will analyse fields in the Ghasha and Hail areas through seismic, drilling and engineering studies, with the aim of potential field development.

OMW and Occidental will provide technical and personnel expertise for the activities.

The Vienna-headquartered company previously participated in the appraisal of the sour gas Shuwaihat field.

“We are pleased to expand our cooperation with ADNOC, together with Occidental, through the appraisal of a number of undeveloped fields which are of strategic importance to ADNOC. This cooperation will further strengthen our already excellent partnership with ADNOC,” said OMV CEO Rainer Seele.
