Photography News: Meet Wellington Guzman
Who is Wellington Guzman
Born in the Dominican Republic, raised in NYC and surrounded mostly by women, I have a BS in Wildlife Biology from SUNY ESF, and a Masters in Arts and Liberal Studies from the University of Miami. I’m all about traveling, and sharing experiences with my close friends. I enjoy basketball, beach volleyball, and a weekend out in nature.
What got you started in Photography
I traveled to Australia during college and visited the Great Barrier Reef, and tropical rain forests. It was impossible to take everything in in just three weeks. I had just purchased a tiny digital camera for the trip, and couldn’t fill my professor’s computer fast enough, with images of animals, plants, people and food.
If you had to choose one lens which one would it be and why?
Although my 70-200mm is my workhorse, I find that the Nikon 24-70mm F2.8 is very versatile, sharp and responsive to many of my needs.
What is your favourite subject to shoot
I am drawn to creating timeless images involving landscapes and women. I aim to produce images people will appreciate for their aesthetic value, whether at an office, a lobby, or living room.
What is your favourite photography accessory, other than your camera?
A good, solid carbon fiber tripod is essential in my opinion.
What has been your most memorable assignment and why?
Self imposed assignments help sharpen my creativity and my limits. The most challenging project to date is a personal project I’m shooting in the streets of downtown Miami. I hope the images help change the culture when I publish it. It concerns the way we treat each other as human beings.
Where would be your dream destination assignment?
I would of course love to go back to Australia to shoot fashion at some of the most epic of landscapes.
Is there anybody or anything you would love to photograph?
Anyone or anything with an interesting back story can be fair game. I wouldn’t be opposed to spending a day chatting and snapping a picture or two with Elon Musk.
I’d like to go on a research expedition with an organization such as the World Wildlife Fund, to make a difference in conservation and capture animal behavior.
