Portugal’s HICP inflation eased unexpectedly in October, figures from Statistics Portugal showed Wednesday.
The harmonized index of consumer prices rose 0.7 percent year-over-year in October, slower than September’s 0.9 percent increase in September. Economists had expected the inflation to remain stable at 0.9 percent.
On a monthly basis, the HICP edged down 0.2 percent in October, reversing a 0.7 percent climb in the previous month.
The consumer price index also grew at a slower pace of 0.6 percent annually in October, following a 0.9 percent rise in the preceding month.
Excluding unprocessed food and energy, core inflation eased to 0.9 percent in October from 1.1 percent in September.
Month-on-month, consumer prices went up 0.1 percent in October after a 0.8 percent increase in the prior month.
