Asian stocks were muted on Wednesday, as traders remained guarded before the meetings of Bank of Japan and Federal Reserve.

There are some speculation the BOJ could bolster its stimulus program, which entails negative rates on some deposits at the central bank. Although awaited to keep interest rates unchanged, the Fed is expected to take a more optimistic economic view.

The MSCI Asia Pacific Index was modestly changed. South Korea’s Kospi tumbled 0.2%, while Japan’s Nikkei fell 0.6%. But the Shanghai Composite Index added 0.4%.
