The Australian dollar plummeted against its major counterparts Monday as the manufacturing sector in China weakened in April.
Manufacturing survey for China dropped to 48.9. Falling commodity prices also pressured the currency, according to official HSBC Bank data.
Against the euro and the US dollar, the Aussie ended at 1.4345 from Friday’s 1.4259, and 0.7801 from 0.7839. It also closed at ¥93.72 from ¥94.21.
Traders will monitor the Reserve Bank of Australia’s rate decision on Tuesday.
