The British pound recovered from its losses Thursday following Bank of England Governor Mark Carney said the timing of an interest rate hike is drawing near.

However, he added the timing could not be projected in advance.

Sterling stood at 0.7044 per euro. Against the US dollar and the Japanese yen, it ended at $1.5521 and ¥194.98, respectively.

Based on the minutes of BOE’s August meeting, only one policymaker voted for a rate increase this month, while eight members were in favor of retaining the rate at 0.5%.

This was the first time the minutes and the monetary policy decision were released at the same time.
