Tencent Holdings Ltd. has closed the deal to purchase mobile game studio Supercell Oy from SoftBank Group Corp., said privy. The deal is estimated to value the firm at around $9 billion. Tencent’s acquisition of Softbank’s stake in the Supercell is reported to happen in several stages. Tencent is currently in advanced negotiations with co-investors to be involved in the procurement of the Supercell stake from Softbank., with Hillhouse Capital leading the discussion.

The acquisition of Supercell would reinforce Tencent’s status as a global leader in PC and mobile games. The company acquired the controlling stake in Riot Games Inc. back in 2011, the maker of last year’s highest grossing PC game ‘League of Legends’.
