Chinese shares recorded modest gains following the country’s economy expanded in line with expectations last year.

Official figures showed gross domestic product grew at 6.8% in the fourth quarter, placing full-year growth at 6.9%. Industrial production rose 5.9% while retail sales climbed 11.1% year-on-year in December.

The Shanghai Composite Index gained 0.3%, while Shenzhen Composite up 0.1%. The CSI 300 added 0.1%. Also, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index went up 0.7% while the Hang Seng China Enterprise Index accrued 0.1%.
