The euro receded from more than two-week high versus the US dollar Friday following Greece delayed the €300 million payment to the International Monetary Fund.
The Greek government decided to bundle up its four payments in June, amounting to €1.6 billion, and pay it off at the end of the month, with Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras saying the lenders demanded changes to tight terms for financial assistance.
The common currency tumbled around 0.1% to $1.1219. Against the Japanese yen, the shared currency lost about 0.1% to ¥139.51.
Greece’s continuous struggle to seal a deal with its creditors and avert a default kept pressuring the currency.
Meanwhile, traders will monitor the jobs data due Friday and the speech of New York Fed President William Dudley about the economy and monetary policy.
