Fitch Ratings Inc. said the debt profile of Australia remained with a triple A rating but warned that political gridlock after an indecisive national election could jeopardize the top rating over time.

The statement was issued by the ratings agency after last Saturday’s general election produced no clear winner though more than half the votes had been counted.

Fitch also noted that it will measure the ability of the Australian government to manage public finances after the election result.
