General Motors’ Canadian unit will receive a $10 million upgrade and a total of 1,000 new jobs in its engineering division, company officials announced on Friday at Oshawa, Ontario. The car manufacturing company will recruit some 700 engineers to beef up its team focused on developing self-driving vehicles.

Its testing facility in Kapuskasing, Ontario, is the receiver of a $10 million improvement. Canada’s auto manufacturing industry has been losing steam after Mexico snatched car companies due to lower production costs.
