Mary Barry has been appointed by General Motors Co as board chairman, effective immediately.
Barra replaced Theodore Solso, who will continue serving as the lead independent director of the board, the company said.
Barra’s appointment as GM’s chief executive in 2014 made her the first woman to lead a major U.S. automaker.
