The New Zealand dollar ascended Monday as it gained support from a disappointing US jobs data last week.

Nonfarm payrolls data climbed by 142,000 in September, while August figures were modified sharply lower to 136,000 from 173,000.

The kiwi stood at 64.57 US cents from Friday’s 64 US cents.

The Fed minutes are old news from the meeting ahead of the jobs report. But some Fed officials may “influence some of the thinking about the US interest rate outlook,” said Chris Tennent-Brown, Senior Economist at ASB.

Meanwhile, traders will anticipate the GlobalDairyTrade auction due Tuesday.
