Surges in Apple and Microsoft, as well as hospital stocks bolstered US stocks as more Americans signed up for Obamacare.
The US government said approximately 6 million people have signed up for the subsidized health insurance, including 2.4 million new customers.
Apple shares climbed 1.23%, while Microsoft gained 1.29%. Tenet Healthcare Corp. leaped 11.6%, while Universal Health Services Inc. added 3.64%.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 17,251.48, up 0.72%. The Nasdaq Composite Index finished at 4,968.92, up 0.93%.
All of the 10 S&P sectors inched higher, topped by a 1.11% increase in telecoms and a 1.06% rise in technology.
