Samsung Electronics Co. backed Apple Inc. in a fight to thwart a court order asking to unlock the iPhone owned by a San Bernardino shooter, saying user privacy is significant.

The smartphone maker said any order requiring to decode any devices would undermine trust and lead to a perilous precedent. But Samsung has not decided if it will submit a friend-of-the-court brief to support the tech giant.

The company also said ensuring confidence in their products and services is their utmost priority, indicating their mobile phones are equipped with encryption protecting content and privacy.
