British consumers have experienced their most optimistic year since 1974, as GfK reported the monthly household sentiment index has touched above zero every month in 2015.

There have been better individual readings, but this year marks the first full calendar year in which each month was above zero, reflecting slumping unemployment and wage growth outpacing inflation.

The company reported its main sentiment index added 1 point to 2 in December. The personal finance measure rose 3 points to 9.
