British stocks glided higher Monday although the FTSE 100 scored its first loss after escalating for eight consecutive session.

The benchmark slipped 0.4% to 6,389.57, with energy and metals sectors recording minor advances. Last week, the index nailed its best week since December 2011.

Other mining stocks gained as well. Glencore Plc shares climbed 1.3% following it mulls over selling two of its copper mines. Randgold Resources Ltd. rose 0.8% and BHP Billiton Plc rose 0.2%, but Anglo American Plc fell 0.1%.
