The Federal Aviation Administration authorized night flights for small commercial drones, indicating how US regulators are adjusting to new uses of uncontrolled jets.

This will enable Industrial Skyworks Inc. to inspect establishments housing these drones at nights, still with certain safety conditions.

The FAA previously said any operations of drone after sunset would need to wait until additional analyses and tests, as well as formal rules were finished.

Although it did not provide immediate comment, FAA’s flight-standards service head John Duncan, in a 24-page document, outlined the rationale for its decision.
