Donald Trump exclaimed "I'm not flip-flopping on immigration, we want to come up with a really fair but firm answer," this morning after meeting with his newly announced Hispanic advisory council this weekend in an effort to figure out a “humane and efficient” manner to deal with immigrants in the country illegally.
It appears Trump's pivot at the end of last week – showing a softer, seemingly apologetic "regretful" side – is continuing, having told black Americans "what have you got to lose"…
Black Americans – who appear hell bent on electing four more years of Obamanomics – have seen black income inequality soar and black youth unemployment unchanged since the first black president came to office…
During the reign of the first black president, white youth unemployment has plunged from 19.0% to just 14.1%; while black youth unemployment has barely budged at 31.2% (from 32.8%) – more than double that of whites.
As Trump said:
“Look at how much African American communities have suffered under Democratic control,” Trump said to his supporters.
“To those hurting, I say, ‘What do you have to lose by trying something new like Trump?’ You’re living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth is unemployed. What the hell do you have to lose?”
And now he is shifting his attention to Latino voters this week… (as The LA Times reports)
He insisted at rallies in Wisconsin and Michigan that he would do a better job than Hillary Clinton, his Democratic rival, at creating jobs and improving schools for black families.
On Saturday, he focused on Latino voters.
In a round table discussion with his campaign's Hispanic advisory council at Trump Tower in New York, the real estate mogul talked about creating jobs and his plans to limit immigration, according to attendees.
Colorado State Rep. Clarice Navarro, a member of the council who attended the meeting, said Trump heard the group's concerns.
"It's about jobs, jobs, jobs, and he really listened," said Navarro, a Republican. "I've always felt he does care about the Latino community and now it's on us to get him elected."
During the meeting Trump also suggested he is interested in figuring out a “humane and efficient” manner to deal with immigrants in the country illegally, according to BuzzFeed.
The Clinton campaign quickly jumped at Trump's pivot:
“Donald Trump will be Donald Trump and what’s clear is that he’s dangerous for the Latino community,” Clinton’s national political director Amanda Renteria said in a statement.
To which Trump exclaimed this mornig "I'm not flip-flopping on immigration," but his stance is softening…
“They want to put together a task force very much like the Ronald Reagan days, with the exception of amnesty,” said Jerry Natividad, a Hispanic Republican from Colorado who was at the Friday meeting.
“I believe the campaign is very open to taking the initiative on this,” he said, adding that the idea is to come up with a policy for undocumented immigrants that “doesn’t put them in front of the line, but puts them in line.”
But, for now it appears to having some effect as at least one recent poll now has Trump leading Clinton – having been written off by the mainstream media just last week.
