Romania’s retail sales growth eased in August after accelerating in the previous two months, figures from the National Institute of Statistics showed Friday.

Retail sales, excluding automobile trade, climbed a working-day-and-seasonally adjusted 8.0 percent year-over-year in August, slower than the 8.5 percent growth in July. In June, sales had risen 7.7 percent.

Sales of food, beverages and tobacco jumped 25.0 percent annually in August and that for non-food products rose by 0.4 percent.

On a monthly basis, retail sales dropped 0.3 percent in August, in contrast to a 1.2 percent increase in the preceding month. It was the first decrease in three months.
