Slovakia’s consumer prices decreased at a slower pace in April, figures from the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic showed Wednesday.
The consumer price index declined 0.1 percent year-over-year in April, slower than the previous month’s 0.3 percent decrease. The index has been on the decline for the five straight months.
Transport costs plunged by 5.4 percent, while education prices grew by 3.3 percent in April, prices of clothing and footwear increased by 1.1 percent, and that of alcoholic beverages and tobacco rose by 1.3 percent.
Core consumer prices increased 0.2 percent on year in April compared to a 0.1 percent decline in the previous month. Foodstuff prices declined at a slower pace, while net inflation without indirect tax changes remained unchanged at 0.3 percent.
On the other hand, consumer prices increased 0.2 percent month-on-month in April, faster than the preceding month’s 0.1 percent rise. This is the second consecutive month of growth following four successive months of decline.
Month-on-month, core consumer prices grew 0.3 percent in April, following a 0.2 percent rise in the preceding month.
